We Couldn’t Find the Perfect Car Mattress—So We Made It

That’s why Havnby was born.

Meet Tingliang – the founder who really, really hates bad car sleep

Interviewer: So, as the founder of Havnby—where did this all begin? What was the first mattress you actually built?

TINGLIANG: The one for the Tesla Model Y. It became our Foam Mattress for Tesla Model Y / 3 / Juniper. I had friends who loved road trips, but every time they tried to sleep in their car, it was just… bad. Gaps everywhere, weird angles. One of them laughed and said, “I’d honestly pay for anything that lets me actually sleep well in the car.”

Interviewer: That does sound like a challenge. What did you change?

TINGLIANG: We made it simple. Foam-only, 4.5 inches thick. No gaps, no need to push the seats forward. You just roll it out and sleep—like a real bed.

Interviewer: What made this mattress different from the others?

TINGLIANG: The dual-compression system. One button inflates, one button deflates. And when you’re done? It rolls tight and fits in the frunk. Took months to figure that out, but it’s so worth it.

Interviewer: After Tesla, what came next?

TINGLIANG: SUVs. RAV4, CR-V. People were like, “Please fix the slope in the back!”
So we did.

Interviewer: That’s impressive. How’d you manage to flatten the whole thing?

TINGLIANG: Lots of testing. Measured angles, adjusted support height, built internal dual air chambers. The final version? We call it the Foam Mattress with Auto Level Air Cushion—a 0° flat sleep surface, topped with 4 inches of foam. It feels like magic but it’s just…math and sweat.

Unlike most car camping brands, we don’t make “one-size-fits-most” mats. We obsess over fit. Over comfort. And most of all—over real-life use.
